Hate writing cover letters and resumes?

We love it!

Stop sweating and struggling to write cover letters and resumes that don't get you interviews….

Finally! A quick and easy way for you to painlessly get cover letters and resumes written and you don’t have to become an English major, labor for hours at your computer, or buy and learn expensive software!

  • Do you want your phone to ring off the hook for interviews?
  • Do you want to cut your job search time in half?
  • Do you want your resume and cover letters written by pros who know the secrets of getting hired?

If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions…this may be the most important letter you read all year!

Why?...

Because once you hire us, your worries are over!

Dear Friend,

Did you know that employers receive hundreds of resumes and cover letters for just one job opening? Did you know that an employer spends about 3 seconds looking at these documents that you’ve spent hours toiling over? Most get passed over because there’s nothing remarkable about them and they are missing crucial information. In fact, most resumes are so bad that they are immediately tossed in the trash. Don’t let it happen to you!

The function of a resume is to state what you want to do and to show that you’re qualified. A good resume efficiently demonstrates that you meet (or exceed) the basic requirements of the job.

An effective cover letter takes it up a notch and appeals to the employers’ desire to hire some one who is not only qualified, but who will take extra care and time on the job as he/she did on her resume and cover letter.

Your cover letter should communicate that you’re:

  • Passionate about your career
  • Well-informed
  • Knowledgeable about the company to which you’re applying
  • Able to meet or exceed the required job qualifications
  • Able to fill their needs

By the time an employer has read your cover letter, he should be dialing the phone to set up an interview with you.

Our pledge: We promise to write cover letters and resumes you need to advance your career

Sincerely,
Jeanne Simon

“The day I got my resume I used it and the employer was so impressed that I got an offer. I’m ecstatic!”
-Lillian Avarez

Jeanne Simon. Mark Simon

“We have a combined over 50 years of owning businesses and freelance experience in marketing, TV, animation, illustration, graphic design, storyboarding, and film production. We’ve been hired on over 3000 projects and we’ve hired hundreds of others. Our system of resume writing has worked for us and many others and it can work for you.”
Jeanne Simon

Case study #1 – Lillian
Lillian sat down to write her resume again. Graduation was only two weeks away and she was ready to get a paying job. Even though she knew that she had excellent communication skills and that she was a team player, it didn’t feel right to use these phrases when she knew that employers read most of the same things on every one’s resume. How can she present her qualifications and training without sounding trite or boastful?

Lillian got an unexpected call from a radio station to interview for a production assistant job which she really wanted. I wrote a resume for her in one day and she got a job offer within an hour after printing out her new resume. When the producer looked over her resume he said, “This resume is terrific. It tells me everything I need to know. When can you start?”

“Hi …  We’re Jeanne and Mark Simon.

As producers and business owners, it’s our job to look through hundreds of resumes in an effort to find qualified job candidates in a short amount of time. As Mark and I shared our frustrations with each other about struggling through resumes that gave us way too much irrelevant information, while telling us almost nothing useful, we began formulating the optimum way to craft a resume. Our own resumes became the guinea pigs for a system that many would term unconventional and which we proved indisputable in its success.

When Mark and I submit resumes - we get interviews. Our system works so well that we wrote a book about it called Your Resume Sucks! We consider job seekers to be the product, a resume to be the commercial, and the employer to be the consumer. A resume has approximately three seconds to grab the attention of an employer. Your resume must communicate what you do and that you’re qualified.”

A resume has approximately three seconds to grab the attention of an employer!

There are two ways to get a resume and cover letter that gets your phone to ring. You can buy the book Your Resume Sucks! and revise your resume following our methods or you can hire me and my team to custom craft a resume that is bold, concise and lets others know how you can help them, that you are a professional who knows how to make a dynamic impression.

We write resumes that lead to jobs!

Our resumes:

  • Sell you
  • Highlight your experience, education, and supporting credentials to make you a top candidate
  • Are presented in a clean, concise format with text and white space balanced
  • Are free from spelling and grammar errors
  • Show employers how you can help THEM!

Case Study #2 – Dan
Dan knew that being a freelancer meant that there would be slow times, but the current slow time was turning into an eternity and he needed to get work quickly. The art director looked at his resume for only a few moments and then shook her head no as she handed it back to him. She said, “Clearly you have some experience at a lot of things, but I can’t figure out from your resume what you do. I really need some one who specializes in digital illustration.”  Why can’t people see what Dan can do from his resume?

I wrote two resumes for Dan with each one supporting a specific job title. Now clients no longer wonder what Dan does or question his qualifications. He feels more confident when he applies for jobs.

Our method works because we make the employers’ jobs so much easier. There’s no guess work! The employer knows at a glance –

  • The job for which you’re applying
  • The qualifications that make you a stand out
  • How your work experience meets or exceeds the job requirements
  • Any exceptional achievements you’ve accomplished
  • Technical skills you’ve mastered
  • Degrees, certificates or other training you’ve received
  • How you can help their business

"I didn’t realize that I had so much experience! The resume you wrote for me makes me feel that I really can get the job I want. I feel so confident now."
- Lillian

What’s the most important thing at the top of your resume?

Hint: It’s not your name.

No one wants to hire a Tom, Sally, or Kelli. Employers are looking for account reps, sales managers, executive assistants, or project managers. The job title and your telephone number are much more important than your name.

When you find out how and why we break the other rules of standard resume writing you’ll be shaking your head, “That makes so much sense!”  Much of what is taught by schools, parents, or other professionals about resumes isn’t practical. A lot of the information you are told to put on your resume may seem reasonable, but very often is used against you by an employer. We know how employers screen applicants and we create resumes that outsmart screening.

I personally oversee the writing of each resume. I’m an award-winning writer, TV producer, and co-author of Your Resume Sucks! I’ve produced over 400 episodes of TV, hired hundreds of crew people, and reviewed thousands of resumes. I know what it takes for an employer to put your resume in the INTERVIEW pile.

Let’s discuss the ways to get a resume. You can write it yourself from scratch or you can fill in a template that comes with most word processing software. All it costs you is time and just like the saying goes, “You get what you pay for.” In this case you pay nothing for the resume and it will do nothing for you.

Your resume should be as unique as you are.

It should stand out and convince the employer to invest his or her valuable time to interview you. Many resume templates don’t even have a field to specify a job title but they almost all have a space for the useless Duh-jective Statement. Plus the formatting could prove a problem when an employer emails your resume to a colleague. All in all, templates may seem convenient and economical, when they’re really a waste of time that could actually keep you from getting the job you want as quickly as you want.

Another option is to hire a resume writing service whose goal is satisfy you by delivering a resume exactly how you want it. That may be considered by some as good customer service, but is it serving the customer? At Your Resume Sucks! we believe in our proven method so strongly that we will only write resumes according to the 3 Keys of Success. We feel that our clients are hiring us for our expertise and to write resumes any other way is against our policy. For instance, we will not include an objective statement as part of any resume.

We know that our method of resume and cover letter writing works because we’ve used it in our careers and we’ve seen it work for countless others.

“You absolutely must visit her web site, buy her book, and after you've read it and you're in information over load, have Jeanne write your resume and cover letter. It will change your life."
Jackie Jones
Host of The Jackie Jones Challenge

You may wonder though,

“What do HR professionals and other executives think about our resumes?”

“Dear Jeanne:

I have to tell you this resume is different from any resume that has come across my desk!  I mean that in a good way.

I see how no dates help.  I am not looking at how long someone has been in a job, but what their position was and from this resume format - what they accomplished or the 'results' area - very impressive.”

-Faith Powers
HR/Operations Manager

“This is the way all resumes should be written.”
-Marty Sherman
Regional VP Landry’s Restaurants

Our philosophy is to write a better resume that gets results by doing it differently. Yes, we break the rules when it comes to dates, the order of information, and a few other aspects of resume writing. We’re breaking the rules based on 50 years of experience.

For many of us in the arts, we are independent contractors; we work on short-term projects; and we specialize in more than one field. All of this means that we have to have resumes that clearly communicate what we do and our qualifications, we need to update our resumes often and we should typically have more than one resume.

The traditional rules of resume writing certainly don’t work any more (if they ever really did.) Teachers, parents, friends, and guidance counselors may be well-meaning in their advice about resume writing, but what is their guidance based on?

Case Study #3 – Jennifer
Jennifer was ready to work again after staying at home with her daughter, Haley, for the first three and a half years of her life. Before Haley, Jennifer was moving up rapidly in her broadcast journalism career. Now Jennifer knew she needed to start over again in a smaller market, but she was afraid that the three and half year gap in her career would keep her from getting any job. How can she be honest on her resume and not have the gap hurt her?

I wrote a resume for Jennifer that portrayed her as the skilled motivated worker she is and avoided the gaps in her work experience. As a result, she got several job interviews and a job offer quickly.
